Original 1950’s sputnik urchin chandelier

Approx: 32" in width - height is approximately 16".

There are 8 arms for a bulb and also a ninth socket in the center bottom.

Named after the satellite that inspired them, Sputnik lights are a modern style marked by a distinctive starburst pattern. The first sputnik lamps were designed by Gino Sarfatti. Sarfatti designed the first sputnik stlyle lamps in 1954, 3 years before the Russian satellite Sputnik was launched. We do not know the maker of this vintage lamp.

The height of cool design in the late 50’s and early 60’s, original chandeliers such as this are very hard to find. The hand welding and vintage patina on the originals give them an authentic hand created look that modern day reproductions can’t duplicate.

A modern day sputnik chandelier similar to this vintage design was featured on the cover of Real Simple magazine last year. The reproduction sells for $1,920.

This lamp is not a reproduction, it is an original!

We recommend that you have all vintage lamps wired to modern day code.
